 Background statement

Ginger is the founder of PYTS and president of Living Well, Inc., a green company started to help shrink the chasm between eastern and western health care. As a licensed physical therapist and yoga therapist, Ginger's focus is education of health care professionals in integrating Yoga into rehabilitation settings. PYTS has recently expanded to include education of all Yoga practitioners. Ginger's passion for therapeutic healing has led her to study and apply her techniques in diverse venues of physical therapy and disciplines of Yoga. Spiritual grounding and devotion anchors her belief that every person is capable of a richer and more fulfilling life through Yoga. Ginger studied and earned her license as an Athletic Trainer before earning her Master of Physical Therapy at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While at UNC, Ginger also completed graduate work in the School of Public Health. Her work here has laid the foundation for developing a grass roots effort to empower the public about holistic, environmentally and socially responsible living. For over 15 years Ginger has studied Hatha yoga, giving emphasis to application of yoga as a therapy for chronic pain and orthopaedic injury management. Ginger is a licensed physical therapist, certified athletic trainer, experienced registered yoga teacher at the 500 hour level with The Yoga Alliance with more than 5000 hours of teaching experience, and certified Pilates instructor. Her teaching emphasizes the flowing meditation of thoughtful movement and complete breath within the framework of compassionate alignment of the asana. Garner’s work in chronic pain has earned recognition in the International Journal of Yoga Therapy (2004 Vol. 14) as an effective modality for treating fibromyalgia, neck and back pain, as well as weight management and anxiety/panic disorders. Her latest publication is the first in a series of Yoga Therapy DVD's entitled: Ancient Yoga, New You. The DVD is modeled on her 18 month research study and on over 5 years of work with patients of chronic pain. It is geared towards anyone who suffers from pain, whether physical, psychological, or emotional. Ginger makes her home on the Outer Banks of North Carolina along with her wonderful family and her bouncing, energetic, elderly labrador retreiver.
